The City of Toronto announced that its employees raised $1.69 million in support of the United Way Greater Toronto at an event held today at Metro Hall. With an initial 2018 target of $1.55 million, this is the 18th consecutive year that the City’s employee campaign has exceeded its campaign fundraising goal.

“Members of the Toronto Public Service consistently show that they care about our city and its residents,” said Mayor John Tory. “This outstanding fundraising effort will help support the great work the United Way does in all areas of the city.”

“We could only have achieved this goal with the support of our staff, unions and associations,” said City Manager Chris Murray. “I’m so impressed with the commitment, caring and generosity shown by our employees through the United Way campaign.”

“Many thanks to the hundreds of staff who displayed their efforts and enthusiasm to help us surpass our fundraising target yet again,” said Campaign Co-patrons Giuliana Carbone, Deputy City Manager, and Frank Ramagnano, President of the Toronto Professional Firefighters’ Association.” Staff have continued to embrace this important cause and provided hope and opportunity to those in our community who are less fortunate.”

The three-month employee campaign included several corporate events, as well as more than 200 divisional fundraising events at workplaces across the city. The City’s employee campaign reaches staff at all levels through a joint labour and management partnership that includes CUPE Local 79, CUPE Local 416, the Toronto Professional Fire Fighters’ Association, Toronto Public Library Workers Union CUPE Local 4948 and the City of Toronto Administrative, Professional, Supervisory Association (COTAPSA).
