Deputy Mayor Michael Thompson (Ward 21 Scarborough Centre), Chair of the Economic and Community Development Committee, presented the 2018 Partnership to Advance Youth Employment (PAYE) Leadership Award at this morning’s committee meeting.

The 2018 PAYE Leadership Award was presented to Cisco Canada for its commitment to the City of Toronto’s PAYE program and to supporting the advancement of youth in Toronto. Cisco’s many contributions include participating in the 2018 Skills for the Future of Work Symposium and facilitating a number of professional development and networking initiatives for youth.

Now in its fifth year, the PAYE Leadership Award recognizes individuals and organizations for their outstanding leadership, innovation and dedication to youth employment and local workforce development.

PAYE is a joint initiative between the City, private sector employers and a network of community agencies committed to supporting youth 18 to 29 years to find and maintain employment. Since its launch in 2009, PAYE has provided thousands of diverse and talented youth job seekers with one-on-one coaching, referrals to training and education, workshops and networking events, and jobs with career potential.

In 2018, PAYE supported more than 340 employers and more than 2,500 youth, of whom 1,242 secured employment and 360 were connected to work-based learning opportunities.
