Councillor Paul Ainslie (Ward 24 Scarborough-Guildwood) will officially open the City of Toronto’s newly renovated Sculptor’s Cabin in Guild Park this Saturday. The event will mark the first step of launching the Clark Centre for the Arts, a multi-purpose, multi-faceted arts facility scheduled to open in Guild Park and Gardens in 2020.

Councillor Ainslie will be joined by sculptor Dorsey James, an original Sculptor’s Cabin artist-in-resident, and John Mason, President of Friends of Guild Park and Gardens, as well as members of the Guild Park Stakeholder Group and City staff.

Date: Saturday, June 8
Time: 2 to 3:30 p.m., remarks at 2:45 p.m.
Location: Guild Inn Estates, 201 Guildwood Parkway

Originally built in 1942, the one-room cabin once supported artists in residence at Scarborough’s Guild of All Arts artist collective, which included sculptors Dorsey James and Elizabeth Fraser Williamson. The restoration of the 288-square-foot (27-square-metre) cabin included the addition of running water and electricity, as well as the installation of a new roof, lighting, cabinets, windows and door.

This new cultural resource for the community will serve as a welcome centre to support community-driven cultural and heritage activities organized through a partnership with the Guild Park Stakeholder Group. That group includes anchor organization Friends of Guild Park and Gardens along with the Guild Renaissance Group, the Guild Festival Theatre and the Guildwood Village Community Association.
