Proposed 2010 Residential Solid Waste Rates

Notice is hereby given that City officials are recommending that the Council of the City of Toronto pass a by-law to set the 2010 Residential Solid Waste Rates as set out below.

Recommended new 2010 residential annual curbside collection rates per bin
Small bin $203
Medium bin $253
Large bin $349
Extra Large bin $407

The annual rebate per household will remain unchanged at $209.

Other recommended new 2010 residential bin fees
Fee to exchange blue bin for a larger blue bin $0
Fee to exchange for a larger garbage bin $20
Fee to exchange for a smaller blue bin $20


Recommended 2010 residential bulk collection rates
Small bin equivalent $153
Medium bin equivalent $178
Large bin equivalent $209
Extra Large bin equivalent $240
Fee for excess waste: un-compacted (per yd³) $9.75
Fee for excess waste: compacted (per yd³) $29.24

The annual rebate per unit will remain unchanged at $157.

Residential bag tag fees will remain unchanged at $3.10.

At its meeting to be held in Committee Room 1, 2nd floor, Toronto City Hall, 100 Queen Street West, on October 19, 2009, commencing at 10 a.m., the Budget Committee of Toronto City Council will consider 2010 Toronto Solid Waste Management Operating and Capital Budget and the 2010 Residential Solid Waste Rates.

Budget Committee Public Hearings regarding the Toronto Solid Waste Management Operating and Capital Budget as well as the 2010 Residential Solid Waste Rate Report will be held in Committee Room 2, 2nd floor, Toronto City Hall, 100 Queen Street West, on October 21, 2009, commencing at 9:30 a.m. at which time the Committee will receive presentation from any person, or their counsel, agent or solicitor, who wishes to speak to the matter.

The Budget Committee will make its final recommendations on October 23, 2009, at 9:30 a.m., which will be forwarded for Executive Committee's consideration at its meeting on November 2, 2009. The final recommendations will be considered by City Council at its meeting scheduled on November 30, 2009 and the adopted fees will be implemented through a by-law that will amend the Municipal Code.

While the 2010 Residential Solid Waste Rate Report sets out the recommended rate, the appropriate Committee may change these recommendations and Toronto City Council may adopt rates that differ from the recommendations, including rates that are higher or lower than the rates set out in the report.
