(Letter dated April 15, 1998, addressed to the Councillor Tom Jakobek from Councillor Frances Nunziata)
Please find enclosed a copy of a letter and petition from members of the Keele/Eglinton Business Improvement Area.
Their covering letter is self-explanatory but I would like to take this opportunity to express my very strong support for their
request, which I consider critical to revitalization of this commercial/retail area of our City.
I trust you will give their request the serious consideration it deserves.
(Letter dated March 26, 1998 from the Keele/Eglinton Business Improvement Area addressed to Councillor Jakobek)
I am writing to you on behalf of the members of the Keele/Eglinton Business Improvement Area. We have received a copy
of the letter sent to you by Councillor Frances Nunziata, in reference to the request by the Toronto Police for special Target
Policing funding. Our association wholeheartedly supports this request and believes that it would help alleviate some of the
difficulties we are encountering in our area.
The members of the Keele/Eglinton BIA are facing many challenges in our attempt to increase customer patronage and
community support for our area stores and businesses. But we view a clean and safe environment as being key to winning
back our customer base. More police resources for this area, particularly to target specific and well-known problems, would
help restore a climate of confidence in the Keele/Eglinton business community.
The $2.5 million requested by the police to facilitate Target Policing, should be viewed as an investment. It must also be
weighed against the lost opportunities, jobs and economic development that would be the result of failing to address this
issue. Thank you for your consideration in this matter.
