October 6, 1998
To:Strategic Policies & Priorities Committee
From:Brenda Glover
Executive Director of Human Resources
Subject:Audit Division Staff Redeployment
Recommendation:
It is recommended that this report be received for information.
Background:
Related to the restructuring and downsizing of the Audit Division, twenty-eight (28) out of a
total of thirty (30) staff have been accommodated through voluntary exits, position
terminations, retirements, secondment, placement in other Departments and employment
outside the Corporation.
Comments:
Effective August 31, 1998, two employees of the Audit Division were given notices of lay-off
in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Corporation and CUPE, Local 79.
They were also advised of entitlement to full salary and benefits for a period of eight weeks
under the Notice of Termination provisions of the Employment Standards Act.
Since that time, one of the employees has been placed in a temporary assignment for six
months in the Facilities and Real Estate Services Division, Corporate Services Department.
The other employee has accepted a two-week assignment to support the Common Services
Delivery Project in Corporate Services and, in the interim, has also been successful in
satisfying the requirements to commence training for an ongoing temporary position of Social
Services Caseworker.
In addition, we have recently contacted Management of the Police Services Board concerning
vacancies, which we understand, may be available within their Internal Audit and Program
Review group.
Conclusion:
It is the objective of the City Auditor and Human Resources staff to find permanent suitable
alternate employment for the remaining two employees from the Audit Division. All
reasonable efforts are continuing.
