Temporary Road Closure -
Mildenhall Road and Cheltenham Avenue -
North York Centre South
The North York Community Council recommends the adoption of the following report (April 21, 1998) from the
Commissioner of Transportation, North York Civic Centre:
Purpose:
To temporarily close Mildenhall Road, between Rochester and Buckingham Avenues, and Cheltenham Avenue from St.
Ives Crescent to Mildenhall Road to permit the Lawrence Park Community Athletic Association to conduct their annual
Community Picnic on Saturday June 6, 1998.
Source of funds:
With the exception of a $50.00 application fee, all costs associated with the temporary closure are included within the
1998 operating budget.
Recommendation:
That permission for the temporary closure of Mildenhall Road and Cheltenham Avenue be granted and that the appropriate
By-Law be enacted by Council.
Council Reference/Background/History:
It should be noted that the above event has been conducted at this location for the past 19 years, without any serious
incidents.
Discussions:
A request has been received from Mr. William Best, on behalf of the Lawrence Park Community Athletic Association, to
temporarily close Mildenhall Road, between Rochester and Buckingham Avenues, and Cheltenham Avenue from St. Ives
Crescent to Mildenhall Road to vehicle traffic. This closure is required to accommodate their annual Community Picnic.
In accordance with the former City of North York Procedural By-Law No. 24733, the appropriate agencies and
departments have been contacted for comments. There have been no objections to the closure, subject to the applicant
adhering to the following conditions .
- The applicant shall ensure that the area to be barricaded off is clear of parked vehicles and any obstacles that would
interfere with the movement of emergency vehicles.
Further, that the organizer be made aware that should an emergency arise, it could interrupt the program as planned.
Conclusions:
This department recommends that the appropriate by-law be enacted to ensure that Mildenhall Road and Cheltenham
Avenue be closed to vehicular traffic on Saturday, June 6, 1998, from 7:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
