Subject: Parking Prohibitions: Gary Drive and Wendell Avenue

Purpose:

To install parking prohibitions on Gary Drive and Wendell Avenue.

Financial Implications and Impact Statement:

All costs associated with the installation of the parking restrictions are included within the 1999 operating budget.

Recommendations:

It is recommended that:

(1) Schedule VIII of By-Law No. 31001, of the former City of North York, be amended to prohibit parking at anytime at the following locations:

- Wendell Avenue, east side from Gary Drive to a point 30 metres north;

- Wendell Avenue, east side from Gary Drive to a point 30 metres south;

- Gary Drive, south side from Wendell Avenue to a point 30 metres east;

- Gary Drive, south side from Wendell Avenue to a point 30 metres west; and

- Gary Drive, north side from Wendell Avenue to a point 30 metres west

Background:

Currently, parking is prohibited at anytime on the west side of Wendell Avenue, north and south of Gary Drive, and the north side of Gary Drive, east of Wendell Avenue.

Comments:

Since the implementation of the temporary and permanent traffic calming measures, the Transportation Services Division has received concerns of parked vehicles on Gary Drive and Wendell Avenue.

Observations by staff of this Division confirmed the concerns as vehicles were parked within the limits of the turning circle. Due to the already restricted pavement width, any parked vehicles create difficulties for motorists travelling through the intersection.

Conclusions:

The implementation of the parking restrictions will only marginally impact the availability of on street parking and will significantly improve traffic operations through the traffic calmed Gary Drive/Wendell Avenue intersection.
