Appointment of Interim Replacements

to East York's Local Architectural

Conservation Advisory Committee

The East York Community Council recommends adoption of the following report (January27,1999) from the Director of Community Planning - East District:

Purpose:

This report, on behalf of the East York Local Architectural Conservation and Advisory Committee (LACAC), requests Council's endorsement for the appointment of three new Committee members.

Recommendation:

It is recommended that the following persons be appointed to the East York Local Architectural Conservation Advisory Committee, at the pleasure of Council, on an interim basis, and until their successors are appointed:

Mr. Peter Carruthers;

Mr. Paul Smith; and

Ms. Susan McAlpine.

Financial Implications:

None.

Background:

East York LACAC has been operating without a full complement of members since mid-1998. Between June 1998 and November 1998, three of its members have resigned. Their replacement was delayed pending approval by the City Council of a city-wide committee structure, which is still unresolved. The vacancies are affecting LACAC's ability to carry on its normal functions.

Given that the City's Cultural Office has recently indicated that City Council will entertain replacement of members on an interim basis, LACAC requests that Council sanction the appointment of the three interim committee members listed above.
