Other Item Considered by the Committee

(a)Progress Report on Council's Legislative Process Review.

The Special Committee to Review the Final Report of the Toronto Transition Team reports having received the following report:

(February 9, 1999) from the City Clerk providing an update on the ongoing Council legislative process review underway by the City Clerk's Office; advising that the volume of business facing the amalgamated Council, its large size, and its wide-ranging municipal authority, means the legislative process is unlike any other experienced by the former municipalities; that City Clerk's staff are reviewing the legislative process to ensure the right supports are in place and the necessary changes are implemented to create a more transparent, convenient, accessible, and understandable legislative process for Members, staff and the public; that further staff reports recommending specific legislative process improvements will be brought forward as the review proceeds; and recommending that this report be received for information.

________

Mr. Peter Fay, Senior Policy and Planning Analyst, City Clerk's Division, gave a presentation to the Special Committee to Review the Final Report of the Toronto Transition Team, respecting the progress on Council's Legislative Process Review.

Respectfully submitted,

COUNCILLOR DAVID MILLER,

Chair

Toronto, February 12, 1999
