All Way Stop Control - Dell Park Avenue at
Englemount Avenue - North York Spadina
The North York Community Council recommends the adoption of the
following report (December 30, 1999) from the Director, Transportation
Services, District 3, Works and Emergency Services:
Purpose:
To install an all way stop control at the intersection of Dell Park Avenue
and Englemount Avenue.
Financial Implications and Impact Statement:
All costs associated with the installation of the all-way stop is included
within the Division's operating budget.
Recommendations:
It is recommended that Schedules XVIII and XIX of By-law No. 31001, of
the former City of North York, be amended to require traffic to stop on
all approaches to the intersection of Dell Park Avenue and Englemount
Avenue.
Background:
Staff of the Transportation Services Division has investigated the
existing traffic operations at the intersection of Dell Park Avenue and
Englemount Avenue to determine whether an all-way stop control is
required.
Currently, eastbound and westbound traffic on Dell Park Avenue is required to stop at
Englemount Avenue.
Comments:
Englemount Avenue is a north/south roadway, which travels between Lawrence Avenue West
and Viewmount Avenue. Northbound and southbound traffic is currently required to stop at
Glengrove Avenue and Glencairn Avenue. There are traffic control signals at the intersection
with Lawrence Avenue West. The recently constructed Glen Park Public School has frontage
onto Englemount Avenue.
A review of the intersection collision history revealed that within the past three years there
have been 10 incidents, of a type considered preventable by installing on all way stop control,
which could indicate a need for right-of-way control.
Given the increase in the collision history and the new school on Englemount Avenue, this
division supports the installation of an all way stop control.
Conclusions:
The installation of an all way stop control at the intersection of Dell Park Avenue and
Englemount Avenue will provide an increase in the level of safety for the students attending
the Glen Park Public School and reduce the right of way conflicts at the intersection.
