The Board of Directors of the Hummingbird (Sony) Centre for the Performing Arts:
1. Approved the acceptance of the $513,000 Canada Cultural Spaces funding grant described in the letter dated February 16, 2015 from The Honourable Shelly Glover, the Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages[Attachment 1].
2. Approved expenditures, as planned in the Sony Centre 2015 Recommended Capital Budget, conditional upon City Council’s approval of the 2015 Capital Budget at its meeting on March 10 and 11, 2015.
3. Authorized Sony Centre staff to make purchases over $100,000, more specifically as outlined in the confidential Attachment 2 to the report (February 26, 2015) from the Interim Chief Executive Officer, Sony Centre for the Performing Arts. |

| Summary |
The Sony Centre has been approved for $513,000 in matching funding from the federal government through the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund to purchase specialized theatre equipment totalling $1,026,000. The Federal funding stipulates that the Centre must make those expenditures by March 31, 2015, the end of the Federal fiscal year. The application was approved by the Sony Board on September 11, 2014. The expenditures supported by this grant are included in the Sony Centre's 2015 Recommended Capital Budget scheduled for consideration by City Council on March 10, 2015.
The purpose of this report is to seek authorization from the Board as outlined in Sony’s Purchasing Policy #303 for staff to make purchases in excess of $100,000 for specialized theatre equipment. |
