Panel Decision

The Facilities and Finance Nominating Panel recommends that:

 

1. City Council appoint the following candidate as Chair of the Real Estate Advisory Committee, at pleasure of Council, for a term of office ending on November 30, 2018:

 

- Dino Chiesa

 

2. City Council appoint the following candidates to the Real Estate Advisory Committee, at pleasure of Council, for a term of office ending on November 30, 2018:

 

- Linda Robinson

- Marcie Zajdeman

 

3. City Council waive the Public Appointments Policy residency requirement and appoint the following candidate, at pleasure of Council, to the Real Estate Advisory Committee for a term of office ending on November 30, 2018: 

 

- Stephen Taylor

 

4. City Council direct that the confidential information contained in Confidential Attachments 1 and 2 to the report (September 21, 2016) from the City Clerk remain confidential in their entirety as they relate to personal matters about identifiable individuals being considered for appointment to the Real Estate Advisory Committee.

Candidates' Biographies:

 

Dino Chiesa (Chair)

 

Dino Chiesa has an economics degree from McMaster University. His work experiences include CEO of both the Ontario Housing Corporation and the Ontario Mortgage Corporation and the Assistant Deputy Minister of the Ontario Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing. Dino has served on many boards, including as the Chair of the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), as the Vice Chair of the Toronto Lands Corporation, and – currently – as the Chair of the Sienna Senior Living Board. His community work includes two hospital boards and the Villa Charities Board.

 

Linda Robinson

 

Linda Robinson is a retired lawyer who previously practiced corporate and commercial law and chaired the Business Law Department at Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP. She has an LL.B./J.D. from the University of Toronto, a Master's Degree in urban and regional planning studies from the London School of Economics, and an Honours BA in political science from the University of Toronto. Linda is currently the Chair of the Infrastructure Ontario Board, sits on the board of a publicly-traded company, and is involved in pro bono economic and equality initiatives in Nepal and South Africa.

 

Stephen Taylor

 

Stephen Taylor is the Vice President, Real Estate, for the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP) with responsibility for overseeing its $10 billion Canadian and international real estate investment programs. Prior to HOOPP, he was President and COO of Morguard Investments Limited, one of Canada's largest real estate management companies. Stephen is a graduate of Oxford University (Management Studies) and the University of Toronto (Mathematics, Physics, and Geography). He has served on many boards, including the Catholic Children's Aid Society of Toronto.

 

Marcie Zajdeman

 

Marcie Zajdeman has an LL.B. and J.D. from Osgoode Hall Law School and was called to the Ontario Bar in 1993. After six years of private practice in large national and international law firms, she joined the energy industry in the late 1990s, first with Ontario Hydro and then with Hydro One. In her latter roles, Marcie specialized in real estate and secondary land use, Aboriginal law and relations, and large project siting. Most recently, she worked as VP, Legal and Regulatory, at Brookfield. Marcie now works as a Consultant and will be teaching a course on community/Aboriginal consultation in 2017.
