Appointment of Members to the Toronto Music industry Advisory Council (TMAC)
Reason for Confidential Information
This report deals with personal matters about identifiable individuals who are being considered for appointment to the Toronto Music Industry Advisory Council.
Summary
The purpose of this report is to have City Council appoint 4
members of the public to the Toronto Music Industry
Advisory Council to fill current vacancies.
Recommendations
The General Manager, Economic Development and Culture recommends that:
1. City Council appoint the
4 individuals listed in Confidential Attachment 1 to the Toronto Music Industry
Advisory Council, at pleasure of Council, for a term of office ending on November
30, 2018.
2. City Council direct that
the confidential information contained in Confidential Attachments 1 and 2 remain confidential in
its entirety as it relates to personal matters about identifiable individuals
being considered for appointment to the Toronto Music Industry Advisory
Council.

There are no financial implications arising from this report.

At its meeting held March 31, April 1 and
April 2, 2015, City Council appointed 30 members of the public to the Toronto

Comments
The music industry is a significant component of City of Toronto's economic, social and cultural fabric. The City of Toronto recognizes the need to strengthen and grow the industry to ensure the competitiveness and the viability of the sector.
The mandate of the Toronto
Music Industry Advisory Council (TMAC) is to provide recommendations and advice
to enhance the attractiveness and competitiveness of Toronto for the music
industry. TMAC engages and seeks input from the broader industry (including
independent artists) to provide coherent advice to City Council on issues and
opportunities for the sector. TMAC also conducts research, outreach, and
strategic planning to enhance growth opportunities for the music industry
across Toronto.

Advisory Council has up to 36 members, composed of:
There are
four (4) positions currently under consideration:
Four (4) vacancies on TMAC
exist as of March 9 2017 because of the voluntary resignation of four original
members: Errol Nazareth and Sari Delmar during 2016, and Alexander Mair and Che
Kothari in February 2017 and March 2017, respectively.
Appointments
to advisory bodies are governed by a different process
The appointment of public
members to the City's advisory bodies falls under the Public Appointments
Policy; however, the process for recruiting, reviewing and recommending
candidates falls to the program staff responsible for these bodies. Economic
Development and Culture staff have reviewed the applications and now forwards
the recommended candidates to the Civic Appointments Committee for
recommendation to City Council.
