July 1, 2021

This morning, Mayor John Tory visited the City of Toronto immunization clinic at Cloverdale Mall to thank clinic staff on site and at Team Toronto clinics across the city for working Canada Day and throughout the upcoming weekend to get people vaccinated.

More than 1,260 people are working daily at the nine City-run immunization clinics this holiday weekend with 69,712 appointments booked over the next four days (as of 8:15 a.m. July 1).

During the visit, Mayor Tory encouraged residents of Etobicoke-Lakeshore to get vaccinated as soon as possible, including getting the critical second dose of COVID-19 vaccine. The Mayor was joined by local Councillor Mark Grimes (Etobicoke-Lakeshore).

Cloverdale Mall is a short distance from the Etobicoke West Mall, Markland Woods, and Islington-City Centre West neighbourhoods. The Etobicoke West Mall neighbourhood has one of the lowest vaccine coverage rates in the city, at 62.6 per cent for first dose and 28.9 per cent for second dose among people age 18 and older. Collectively in the three neighbourhoods, there are more than 40,000 adults who still need one or more doses of COVID-19 vaccine.

The City is focused on driving up vaccination rates in all areas of Toronto and working with community and healthcare partners to go door-to-door in neighbourhoods where there is low vaccine uptake to provide vaccine information.

The Cloverdale Mall immunization clinic, located at 250 The East Mall, has now administered more than 120,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine. More than 100 staff are on-site daily, vaccinating approximately 3,000 people every day, including this Canada Day. The Cloverdale Mall clinic is operating smoothly at 120 per cent of planned capacity. The clinic has also been recognized for pioneering a “languages spoken” notice board at the clinic entry, advising the clinic’s diverse clientele of the languages spoken on any given day by on-site staff.

There are a small number of Canada Day weekend appointments still available at the Cloverdale Mall clinic. Anyone looking for an appointment at the clinic, which is conveniently located along TTC bus routes 111, 112, 49 and 300, can view available appointments in the provincial vaccine appointment booking system: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/book-vaccine/.

All people age 12 and older are eligible to book first dose and accelerated second dose vaccination appointments at any City-run immunization clinic. Appointments for all City-run clinics can be booked by residents through the dark blue “Book a Vaccine” button on www.toronto.ca/covid-19 or by calling the provincial vaccine booking line at 1-833-943-3900.

To easily connect to resources including vaccine appointment bookings, information on vaccines and upcoming telephone town halls, Toronto residents can text “VACCINE” to 1-833-750-0888 or 833-750-0888 for more information.

Quotes:

“More than 3.4 million vaccine doses have now been administered in our city. We are making great progress and that progress will continue throughout Canada Day and this weekend thanks to Team Toronto and everyone who will be working to get more people vaccinated. It was great to thank some of our frontline vaccine clinic workers at Cloverdale Mall this morning – they are heroes helping bring this pandemic to an end. Thank you as well to everyone who isn’t waiting and will get their shots today, on Canada Day, or any time this weekend – that’s the right thing to do, get vaccinated as soon as possible and then get your second shot as soon as you can.”

– Mayor John Tory

“It’s exciting that we have one of the City’s nine mass immunization clinics right here in Etobicoke-Lakeshore. I’m grateful to the staff at the City’s Cloverdale Mall immunization clinic and the Toronto Immunization Task Force who are working so hard to get us back to the people, places, and things that we love. I also want to thank the tens of thousands of people who have come to the clinic to get vaccinated, and everyone who has been vaccinated by Team Toronto partners for doing their part to protect themselves, their communities, and their loved ones. These efforts are keeping Toronto’s reopening on track.”

– Councillor Mark Grimes (Etobicoke-Lakeshore)
