This appointment is to get your marriage licence only. You must arrange for a separate marriage ceremony to get married.

Marriage licences are issued by appointment only.

Appointments can be scheduled at the following locations:

  • Toronto City Hall, 100 Queen Street West
  • North York Civic Centre, 5100 Yonge Street

Before you book an appointment for a marriage licence, please confirm the following:

  1. You have completed the online marriage licence application.
  2. You and your partner bring 2 pieces of government issued identification EACH to the appointment.
  3. If either of you have been divorced before, you have an original divorce certificate or Foreign Divorce Authorization to bring to the appointment.

View, Cancel or Reschedule an Appointment

If you have previously booked an appointment for a marriage licence, you can look it up on our appointment booking system. You can also cancel or reschedule previously booked appointments.

  • It will take approximately 15 minutes to process your application and issue the licence.
  • Arrive at your scheduled appointment time.
    • If you are late or come without the required documentation, your appointment may have to be rescheduled.

Getting there

  • Paid parking is available under Toronto City Hall, accessible from Queen St. West, Bay St South and Armoury/Chestnut Streets.
  • Subway stops at Queen, Dundas and Osgoode.
  • 501 Queen St. streetcar.
  • You will be required to go through the visitor screening (opens in new window) and a walk-through metal detector before proceeding to your appointment.

North York Civic Centre, 5100  Yonge Street (North York Map PDF)

  • Enter from either the north or south entrances of the building.
  • Paid parking is available on several streets in the area and under North York Civic Centre.
  • Subway stop is North York Centre.

Either applicant may attend the appointment to purchase the marriage licence.

  • The applicant attending the appointment must bring:
    • 2 original pieces of government issued identification for yourself and 2 original pieces of identification for your partner.
    • Identification must be valid and original (we will not accept photocopies, scanned images or pictures on electronic devices).
    • Your completed marriage licence application form signed by both applicants in ink (no digital signatures).
    • All documentation regarding Foreign or Canadian divorces (Foreign Divorce Authorization/Original certificates of divorce).
  • The cost of a marriage licence is $160 (HST does not apply).
  • We accept debit and credit card ONLY. If you do not have a credit or debit card please contact marriage@toronto.ca.
  • The marriage licence fee is non-refundable.
