What is Pilates? Pilates is an innovative system of mind-body exercise evolved from the principles of Joseph Pilates. It can dramatically transform the way your body looks, feels and performs. It builds strength without excess bulk and teaches body awareness, good posture and graceful movements. Pilates can also improve flexibility, agility and economy of motion. The program focuses on the core postural muscles which help keep the body balanced and which are essential to providing support for the spine. In particular, Pilates exercises teach awareness of breath and alignment of the spine, and aim to strengthen the deep torso muscles.
