Extreme Storm Weather Response

What You Need to Know

A significant weather event was declared on Wednesday, September 2. There are several impacts to services following a severe thunderstorm that brought heavy rain, damaging winds and large hail, resulting in flooding, power outages and damaged trees.

Residents

  • Give yourself extra time, travel with caution and consider taking public transit as there could be road closures and traffic delays.
  • Residents are encouraged to continue reporting storm-related concerns to 311. Additional call takers have been brought in to respond to a high call volume. However, due to increased service requests, response times may be longer than usual.
  • Residents are encouraged to report outages, wires down and other power emergencies by calling Toronto Hydro at 416-542-8000.

            What the City is Doing

            • Crews are working to remove flood water and clear debris. Using 311 service request data, crews are prioritizing the areas most in need.
            • Crews are responding to urgent 311 service requests for areas that need more attention. The City has received approximately 2,400 service requests and is assessing and responding to hazards across the city.

                        Bayview Avenue has reopened in both directions from Rosedale Valley Road to Nesbitt Drive.

                        Power outages are impacting several traffic signals. Residents are encouraged to treat impacted intersections as a four-way stop.

                        Drivers should use caution and never drive through ponding.

                        • Humber Valley Golf Course and Scarlett Woods Golf Course are closed.
                        • There is no vehicle access to High Park due to a downed tree. 
                        • All CampTO programs are operating, with activities adjusted on site where needed. 

                        Some drop-in programs may be limited or unavailable. Residents should check the Camps & After School page or call ahead before attending. 

                        Some park washrooms may also be unavailable because of flooding. Residents should check the Washroom Closures & Service Alerts page for the latest information. 

                        It’s unsafe to swim in the lake for at least 48 hours after heavy rain.

                        The City’s 10 supervised beaches are open but some are still being cleared of debris. Please use caution and give crews space to work.

                        Scheduled waste collection may be delayed. Please keep bins out until they are collected.

                        The City increased outreach and wellness checks for people experiencing homelessness. 

                        Residents can contact 311 to request outreach support for someone in need.
