According to Statistics Canada Labour Force Survey data, over
1.35 million City of Toronto residents were employed in 2008.
Over eighty percent of City residents work in service-producing
industries; however, the largest industry grouping remains manufacturing,
which employs 12 per cent of City residents. Professional, Scientific
and Technical Services, which roughly corresponds to what was
formerly known as Business Services employs 11 percent of the
population. Financial Services, Health Care, Education and Retail
Trade are also large employers of City residents.
