Basic Safe Food Handling Training for Student Nutrition Programs

The Basic Safe Food Handling Training for Student Nutrition Programs is a free two-hour training session for volunteer coordinators and other volunteers and staff at Student Nutrition Programs in Toronto. The training is led by a Toronto Public Health Inspector and offers basic information on how to provide food safely and reduce the risk of food borne illness.

  • Hand Washing, Personal Hygiene
  • Food Preparation, Storage and Temperature Control
  • Cleaning and Sanitizing
  • Equipment Requirements

Attendees will receive a Certificate of Attendance upon completion of the training.

All volunteer Student Nutrition Program coordinators and other volunteers who do not have Food Handler Certification are encouraged to complete this free training. This training is not the same as the Food Handler Certification training.

Training requirement for Student Nutrition Programs:
  • At least one person trained in food safety (online, live virtual or in-person) within the last two years must always be present at the Student Nutrition Program.
  • This is a requirement for Student Nutrition Program funding from the City of Toronto.

Registration:

  • Registration is required and is on a first come basis.
  • Maximum two representatives per Student Nutrition Program per training session as space is limited.
  • To register you must have an e-mail address.

Please arrive 15-30 minutes prior to your training start time to allow for parking and check-in. Participants arriving 10 minutes late or more to a training will not receive a Certificate of Attendance.
