Community Leadership After School Program Site Coordinator TR0139

Job Summary: To ensure the planning, organizing, implementation and delivery of the Ministry directed Community Leadership After School Program (CLASP) programs for youth (13-15 years) providing on site program direction.
Machines and Equipment Used: Various office equipment, keys to program storage equipment, first aid kit, various sports equipment, cleaning equipment (soap, rags, mop, bucket, broom, dustpan, garbage bags), health and safety equipment (goggles, gloves, apron, disinfecting wipes), kitchen tools: knives, bowls, mixers, peelers, oven, stove, microwave; tables, chairs, storage bins, storage cupboards, iPad, cell phone, craft products, glue gun, knitting needles, exacto knife.

Responsibilities:

  • Plans, organizes and implements the theoretical component of the Youth Leadership (CLASP) program curriculum.
  • Coordinates the placement of Community Leadership After School Program participants in recreation programs and monitors and evaluates all activities and assignments.
  • Assists with the recruitment and evaluation of program participants.
  • Provides on-going support and feedback to participants and program staff.
  • Follows Daily Program plan to ensure that youth are getting planned physical activity, healthy food choices and nutritional information, wellness and personal health education and local programming.
  • Performs administrative tasks to support the program.
  • Documents attendance of participants, as per the safe arrival policy, follows up with the parents/guardian of any participant who has not arrived at program in a timely manner where their absence has not been accounted for, up to calling police and follow serious occurrence procedures if necessary. Completes reports as needed.
  • Ensures that program facilities, equipment and supplies meet Health and Safety standards and that all MSDS sheets for products used on site are in the Health and Safety binder and are current.
  • Interacts with caregivers, participants, program staff and the public to provide program information.
  • Assists in promoting, advertising and outreaching for the Community Leadership After School Program (CLASP).
  • Liaises with the Advisory Councils, Youth Outreach Workers, Community Agencies, Organizations, Sponsors, Neighbourhood Action Teams, Community Centre staff.
  • Assists the Community Recreation Programmer with the purchase of program supplies.
  • Assists with the integration and support of ARC participants with special needs.
  • Takes action to deal with incidents, problems and emergencies and complies with Divisional/City Policies and Procedures.
  • Attends and participates in meetings and training sessions.

Qualifications:

  • Post-Secondary Education or continuously enrolled in one or more of the following: Early Childhood Educators - Registered ECE, Ontario College of Teacher, Child and Youth, Social Worker, Recreation and Leisure, Psychology, Sociology or Kinesiology.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Standard First Aid - CRP C Certification including infant and child cardiopulmonary resuscitation as recognized by WSIB.
  • Experience working with Youth in a leadership role and ability to supervise Youth.
  • Experience working with youth populations representing the range of diverse communities in the City of Toronto.
  • Experience working with diverse Youth.
  • You must possess certification in Parks and Recreation Ontario's Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD). Applicants who meet all other qualifications and obtain a conditional job offer will be advised of PHCD course offerings in order to meet this qualification.
  • The ability to lift/carry equipment is required (weighing up to 20 kgs).
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • The ability to oversee and provide direction to site leaders.
  • Fundamental knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the ability to meet the specifications of these acts and any other related regulations that apply to this work.
  • Ability to work as part of a team in developing and delivering high quality programming to children. ARC/CLASP offers programs in accordance with the Ministry of Education's Ontario's Pedagogy for the Early Years "How Does Learning Happen", the Child Care and Early Years Act, and the Principles of Healthy Child Development PHCD quality assessment program.
