* * New housing program * Have your say on TCH housing
Councillor Ana Bailão and a Special Working Group have announced housing consultations using a dedicated e-mail address and public meetings to seek innovative solutions and new partnerships to address the repair needs of Toronto Community Housing and the future of its single-family homes.

The consultations were endorsed by Toronto City Council to investigate alternatives to the sale of 619 occupied TCH single- family homes. Council also requested advice on innovative financial strategies to fund the social housing repair backlog.

A first-of-its-kind survey shows government funding is essential if low- and moderate-income households are to successfully move to home ownership from renting. Making Homeownership Happen contains valuable affordable housing data and makes recommendations on fine-tuning government funding programs.
Change in National Home Renovation Program Funding
The Residential Rehabilitation Assistance Program (RRAP) and Home Adaptations for Seniors' Independence Program have wrapped up as of March 31, 2012. The programs are not continuing because the federal government has transferred funding to the provinces to support new affordable housing initiatives.

Starting in 2013, through continued federal/provincial funding, the City will administer a program known as Toronto Renovates. This program will provide limited funding assistance to seniors and disabled persons for health and safety repairs to their homes and to eligible landlords requiring renovations to private rental buildings.

Please watch this site for details.

Council supports affordable housing opportunities
In partnership with the federal and provincial governments, City Council has agreed to support more affordable housing opportunities by allocating $103 million to four different components. The funding was provided to Toronto under the federal/provincial Investment in Affordable Housing program. Funds will be invested over four years in: housing allowances; new affordable rental construction; rental and ownership home repairs and affordable home ownership.
Housing Roundtable
Councillor Ana Bailão has established a housing roundtable of private-sector experts to promote prosperity in the City of Toronto through partnerships, innovation and the creation of housing opportunities.
