Chemicals in Toronto; Reduction and Awareness in our Community

ChemTRAC Logo

The Environmental Reporting and Disclosure Bylaw ( Municipal Code Chapter 423) came into effect January 1, 2010. This is a new Toronto bylaw that requires facilities and businesses to track and report toxic chemicals. This program will help make our community a cleaner, healthier place to live.

Program Information

Information Sessions
ChemTRAC is offering free information sessions for facilities and businesses that will help you:

  • Determine if your facility needs to report
  • Find out what the reportable toxics are
  • Save time by learning what you need to do now to prepare

If you are interested in attending, please email chemtrac@toronto.ca or call 416-338-7600 for details.

Topics include:
  • The Environmental Reporting and Disclosure Bylaw
  • What it means for your business
  • If and when you will have to report
  • What you will need to do in 2010 and beyond
  • Use and release calculators – what are they, how are they used
  • How to be a part of the pilot testing of calculators and resources
  • Where to go for more information
Reporting made easy

Chemical reporting may be new to some facilities. To help you adapt, ChemTRAC will be phased in over a four-year period. Toronto Public Health will provide free training, information and online 'calculators' to help you estimate your use and release of toxic chemicals.

See our Guide to Reporting (PDF)

In order to report you will need to determine if you release, manufacture, process, or otherwise use one or more of the toxic chemicals listed in the bylaw. To help you do this, we are developing a number free of estimation calculators. We will be posting these calculators on the website as they become available.
