The responsibility for the operation of the Provincial Offences courts was transferred from the Province of Ontario to the City of Toronto in 2002. Thus, Toronto Court Services provides the facilities which houses administrative services to the public at our counters and court clerks to support the operation of 30 courtrooms in 4 locations across the City.

Parking Tickets
Parking ticket payments and requests for trials for parking matters are processed at Parking Tag offices and not at Provincial Court locations. However, Justices of the Peace are not located at Parking Tag offices, thus requests for extension of time to pay a fine and re-openings on parking matters must be done at a Provincial Offences Court office. A screen print must first be obtained from a Parking Tag office for each parking matter to be dealt with unless a Notice of Fine and Due Date is available for the matter.

Scent Free Policy
In response to health concerns, Court Services workplaces limit the use of scented products. Scented products such as hair sprays, perfume and scented deodorants may trigger reactions such as respiratory distress and headaches. In consideration of others, people attending at the courthouses are asked to limit or refrain from using scented products. Your cooperation is appreciated.

* * New Early Resolution Process:
The Provincial Offences Act has been amended to provide for Early Resolution Meetings as of March 31, 2012. This process offers a wider range of options for defendants who have received a POA Part 1 Offence Notice. Now, a person receiving an offence notice (ticket) has the opportunity to schedule a meeting with a prosecutor to discuss the possibility of resolving the matter without the need for a trial.

By checking the box under "Option 2, Early Resolution," on the back of your ticket and mailing it to the Court Office on the back of your ticket within 15 days, the court office will mail back an Early Resolution Meeting Notice, advising you of the time and place of the meeting. If you cannot attend the scheduled meeting; and you give at least two days written notice of that to the court office, the meeting can be re-scheduled once only to a new date within 30 days of your initial meeting date.

The Early Resolution process will benefit defendants by:
  • Providing a mail-in method of scheduling a meeting with a prosecutor before a trial is requested, simplifying access to prosecutors.
  • Providing a telephone (remote) meeting option for defendants who live 75 kilometers or more from the court office.
