April 28, 1998
To:Budget Committee
From:Michael R. Garrett, Chief Administrative Officer
Subject:Animal Services Budget
Purpose:
To report back as requested on the sharing of information related to the Animal Services budget.
Recommendations:
It is recommended that this report be received for information.
Council Reference/Background/History:
The Budget Committee gave final consideration to the Animal Services 1998 Operating Budget on April 3, 1998. At that
meeting, a Committee member circulated to the Committee a copy of a letter dated March 17, 1998 from the Toronto
Humane Society which proposed contracting animal shelter services in York and East York to the Society for an additional
fee of $277,040. The letter was addressed to the CAO and marked private and confidential. The Committee requested that
the CAO report on why this letter had not been circulated previously to the Committee.
Comments and/or Discussion and/or Justification:
The Toronto Humane Society clearly marked its letter of March 17th Private and Confidential, therefore it was not
distributed to the Budget Committee. However, since it related to the budget process, it was referred to Finance staff for
consideration and analysis.
