Dear Novina Wong:
Re: Response to Council's Recommendation
Pertaining to the Police Services Budget
City Council, at its Special Meeting held on April 29 and 30, 1998, in adopting the 1998 Operating and Capital
Budgets of the Toronto Police Service, also adopted various recommendations. These recommendations were
communicated to me by the City Clerk in a letter dated May 11, 1998. The following is in response to
Recommendation Number 5 (a) contained in that letter. The recommendation originated from Councillor John
Adams and states that:
"the Toronto Police Services Board be requested to submit reports to Council, through the Budget Committee,
on the following:
(a) the number of Police Officers and civilians (FTEs) in each year since 1992;"
The Toronto Budget Committee, at its meeting of March 11, 1998, also requested a breakdown of staff for the
Service, including a breakdown by ranks. This information was forwarded to the Police Services Board at its
meeting of March 26, 1998 and subsequently forwarded to the Budget Committee for its meeting of March 31,
1998. Attached is the information provided previously and in response to the above recommendation.
Sincerely,
Norm Gardner
Chairman, Police Services Board
