Subject:Proposed Environmental Initiatives - Reserve Account (York)
for Inclusion with Downspout Disconnection Program (City Wide)
Recommendation:
The York Community Council on November 12, 1998, recommended to the Budget
Committee, that the Commissioner of Works and Emergency Services be requested to include
in the notification process for the Downspout Disconnection Program (City Wide), an enquiry
of residents as to their interest in environmental initiatives such as tree planting, composters,
and blue/grey boxes.
Background:
The York Community Council had before it a communication dated October19, 1998 from
Councillor Joe Mihevc, requesting that the Parks staff (York) report on the feasibility of hiring
two students for each of the two York Wards, 27 York Humber and 28 York Eglinton, using
the $10,000.00 in the reserve account to poll residents on the following environmental
initiatives:
(1)having their downspouts disconnected;
(2)planting trees on their properties; and
(3)using composters and blue/grey boxes.
