Subject:Implementation of the Ontario Works Program as it Relates to Children
Recommendations:
The Children and Youth Action Committee recommended to the Community and Neighbourhood Services Committee:
1.That Council direct the City Clerk to file a formal request under the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection
of Privacy Act for the actual costs of tracking and verifying the expenditure costs of informal child care under the Ontario
Works Program.
2.That the Commissioner of Community and Neighbourhood Services be requested to report back to the Children and
Youth Action Committee on the City of Toronto's costs of administering informal child care under the Ontario Works
program.
Background:
The Children and Youth Action Committee on October 26, 1998, gave consideration to a verbal update by Ms. Marna
Ramsden, General Manager, Children's Services, Community and Neighbourhood Services, on Implementation of the
Ontario Works Program as it Relates to Children.
For the information of the Community and Neighbourhood Services Committee, the Children and Youth Action
Committee also decided to invite interested Members of all Provincial Parties to attend a meeting of the Children and
Youth Action Committee to discuss implications of provincial direction regarding child care under the Ontario Works
Program.
The Committee's recommendations are noted above.
