3. PROPOSED SCHEDULE OF MEETINGS.

Submitting, for approval, the following proposed schedule of meetings for the balance of 1998 for the interim joint meetings of the Metropolitan Cycling and Pedestrian Committee, the Toronto City Cycling Committee and the North York Cycling and Pedestrian Committee, to be held on Mondays at 7:00 p.m.:



- May 25;

- July 13;

- August 24;

- October 5; and

- November 30.

4. 1998 CITY PLANNING WORK PROGRAM.

Network Planning Sub-Committee



Submitting a copy of a report dated March 6, 1998, addressed to the Urban Environment and Development Committee from the Commissioner, Urban Planning and Development Services, headed "1998 City Planning Work Program"; and recommending that:



(1) the aforementioned report be referred to the Sub-Committees with a request that they report to the next joint meeting of the Metropolitan Cycling and Pedestrian Committee, the Toronto City Cycling Committee and the North York Cycling and Pedestrian Committee on the work activities that are of interest to them; and



(2) Members of the aforementioned Committees review the Work Program and identify the activities that the Joint Committees should be following.





5. RECOMMENDATIONS ON PEDESTRIAN SAFETY.

Pedestrian Issues Sub-Committee



Submitting, for information, a copy of a communication dated April 3, 1998, addressed to the Urban Environment and Development Committee from the Pedestrian Issues Sub-Committee containing various recommendations respecting pedestrian safety; advising that the recommendations follow from a tragic increase in the number of fatalities on Toronto streets thus far in 1998; and that the increase is clearly connected to the increasing failure of motor vehicles to comply with rules of the road (running red lights, speeding, etc.).





6. CYCLIST SAFETY REVIEW BY THE REGIONAL CORONER.

Submitting, for information, a copy of a communication addressed to the Cycling Safety Committee from the Office of the Regional Coroner for Metropolitan Toronto dated March 31, 1998, forwarding a draft report on Cycling Safety in the City of Toronto for review; and advising that a final report will be released prior to the end of April 1998.
