May 6, 1998
Dear Bike Week Volunteer and Cycling Committee Member,
Toronto Bike Week 1998 is fast approaching and our annual approach to volunteers is underway. As a tried and true friend of Bike Week, we'd be delighted to have your volunteer support this year as Bike Week expands across the new City of Toronto. Bike Week will run from May 30 through June 7, and will include activities and events for everyone. With the amalgamation of Toronto's former municipalities, there will be events in each community, including East York, York, Scarborough, Toronto, Etobicoke, and North York. This means we are promoting Bike Week events to four times the number of people. We are looking for volunteers to help us with activities, events, and promotion.
There are a few other changes this year. The Bikes Mean Business Awards gala will be combined with the volunteer appreciation party, bringing everyone involved in Bike Week together for the evening. The theme of the gala will be a retrospective look at Bike Week - a collection of stories, displays and memories from the first "Bike To Work Day" in 1989, to "Bike To Work Week", and finally, "Bike Week". (If you have a Bike Week story, or know of someone who does, please let us know on the attached form.)
The Bikes Mean Business Gala will be held on Thursday, June 11, at 7:00 pm, in the rotunda of City Hall. Mark it on your calendar - and we hope to see you there!
In addition, we will be honouring a new round of Bicycle Friendly Business Award winners. If you know of a business or organization that has contributed to cycling in Toronto, please complete and return the enclosed nomination form (and pass one on).
If you'd like to be part of Toronto Bike Week 1998, please fill out the enclosed registration form, and return it to us as soon as possible. For more information, please feel free to call Trisha Kaplan or Joanna Beyersbergen at (416) 392-7592.
We look forward to seeing you,
Trisha Kaplan and Joanna Beyersbergen
