Subject:Variances to the Etobicoke Sign By-law
Purpose:
To advise Etobicoke Community Council of the decisions of the Sign Variance Advisory Committee.

Recommendation:
That the recommendations of the Etobicoke Sign Variance Advisory Committee be received for information.
Comments:
At its meeting held on Tuesday, May 26, 1998 the Sign Variance Advisory Committee had for consideration the following
applications. The Committee=s decisions were as follows:
1. Tim Horton's, 135 Rexdale Blvd.
THAT a report dated May 26, 1998, from the Director, Building Standards, with respect to an application for variance to
permit an additional ground sign and a second drive-through menu board at a new drive-through restaurant on Rexdale
Boulevard, be received; and
THAT an application by the TDL Group for variance to the Sign By-law to permit one pylon sign with a total signage area
of 14.42m2 (both sides), and a second drive-through menu board ground sign, be approved, subject to compliance with all
setback and height requirements and issuance of a building permit.
2.Wendy's Restaurant, 1569 The Queensway
THAT a report dated May 26, 1998, from Director, Building Standards, with respect to an application for variance to
permit the installation of a second advertising ground sign adjacent to the drive-through area at 1569 The Queensway, be
received; and
THAT an application by Wendy's Restaurants of Canada Inc. for variance to the Sign By-law to permit a second ground
APreview@ sign, for advertising product specials, be approved as submitted.
3.Lansing Buildall, 4208 Dundas Street West
That a report dated May 26, 1998, from Director, Building Standards, with respect to an application for variance to permit
the installation of a new identification ground sign, including an interchangeable message board, for a building supply
company on Dundas Street West, be approved, and
(1)The existing sign and planter base be removed from the Dundas Street West road allowance.
(2)The new ground sign, located 1.06m from the closest edge of the sign to the street property line, is allowed subject to
the following conditions:
(a)the planter base is limited to 0.4m in height,
(b)the first 1.8m above grade will be open, and any decorative mouldings shall not restrict egress visibility,
(c)the sign is restricted to a maximum display area of 11.2m2, including five lines of interchangeable message board, and
will have a maximum height of 7.3m from the grade.
The foregoing recommendations are in accordance with the attached reports dated May 26, 1998, from the Director,
Building Standards, as amended.
