 Subject:Variances to the Etobicoke Sign By-law

 Purpose:

 To advise Etobicoke Community Council of the decisions of the Sign Variance Advisory Committee.

 Funding Sources, Financial Implications and Impact Statement:

 None.

 Recommendation:

 That the recommendations of the Etobicoke Sign Variance Advisory Committee be received for information.

 Comments:

 At its meeting held on Tuesday, June 23, 1998 the Sign Variance Advisory Committee had for consideration the following applications. The Committee's decisions were as follows:

 1. Nooky's Adult Entertainment, 1780/1790 Albion Road

 That an application by Neon Products Ltd., on behalf of Nooky's Adult Entertainment, for a variance to the Sign By-law to permit an additional ground sign at a multiple occupancy industrial building at the corner of Albion Road and Highway 27, be refused in accordance with the recommendation contained in a report dated June 23, 1998, from the Director, Building Standards.

 2.Hawk's Nest, 36A Stoffel Drive

 THAT a report dated June 23, 1998, from the Director, Building Standards recommending refusal of an application for variance to permit the installation of a roof sign advertising a restaurant/night club and featured attractions, be received; and

 THAT the application by Kwality Signs, on behalf of Hawk's Nest, be approved subject to:

(i)removal of that portion of the sign indicating the telephone number and lowering the sign so that the top will be no greater than 6' above the roof line, and 4' above the neighbouring roof line; and

 (ii)issuance of a building permit.

 3.Pattison Outdoor Signs, 935 The Queensway

 That an application by Mr. C. Charny for a variance to the Sign By-law to permit the installation of a third-party advertising roof sign on an industrial building at 935 The Queensway, be refused in accordance with a report dated June 23, 1998, from the Director, Building Standards.

 4. Kipling Car Wash, 2146 Kipling Avenue

 That an application by Gregory Signs & Engraving, on behalf of Kipling Car Wash, for a variance to the Sign By-law to permit the installation of a sidewall fascia sign, having a display area of 13.78 m² (14.02 m x 0.98 m), on the east elevation at 2146 Kipling Avenue, be approved, in accordance with a report dated June 23, 1998, from the Director, Building Standards.
