 4 May 1998

To:Chairman and Members of the North York Community Council

From:Jim Kinrade

Commissioner of Transportation

North York Civic Centre

 Subject:Proposed Parking Prohibitions: Longmore Street

Purpose:To amend the existing three hour parking limit on both sides of Longmore Street, between Spring Garden Avenue and Alfred Avenue, to "No Parking 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., Monday to Friday".

 Source of funds:

All costs associated with the installation of the parking restrictions are included within the 1998 operating budget.

Recommendations:

It is recommended that Schedule VIII of By-Law #31001be amended to prohibit parking from 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, on both sides of Longmore Street, from the northerly limit of Spring Garden Avenue to Alfred Avenue.

Council Reference/Background/History:

Currently, parking is permitted for up to a maximum of three hours on the above noted section of roadway.

Discussion:

This department has been advised by local residents that when vehicles are parked on both sides of the roadway, two way traffic cannot be maintained. Numerous requests to the Metropolitan Toronto Police for enforcement of illegal parking activities have proven ineffective. Also, the majority of residents on this section of Longmore Street are in favour of the proposed parking restrictions.

Conclusions:

In view of the foregoing, this department supports amending the current parking regulations, as requested by the residents.
