(Report dated June 8, 1998, addressed to North York Community Council, from the Commissioner of Transportation,
North York Civic Centre.)
Subject:Parking Prohibitions: Goulding Avenue, North York Centre
Purpose:To prohibit parking at any time on the south side of Goulding Avenue, between Cactus Avenue and Peckham
Avenue.
Source of funds:
All costs associated with the installation of the parking restrictions are included within the 1998 operating budget.
Recommendations:
It is recommended that Schedule VIII of By-Law #31001, of the former City of North York, be amended to prohibit
parking at anytime on the south side of Goulding Avenue, from the westerly limit of Cactus Avenue to the easterly limit of
Peckham Avenue.
Council Reference/Background/History:
Currently, parking is permitted for up to a maximum of three hours on both sides of Goulding Avenue, between Cactus
Avenue and Peckham Avenue.
This department has been advised by local residents that Toronto Transit Commission buses are weaving around parked
vehicles on Goulding Avenue, creating a dangerous situation for both motorists and pedestrians on Goulding Avenue.
Toronto Transit Commission bus operators have also indicated their concern for safety when approaching an area where
vehicles are parked on both sides of the roadway.
Discussion:
Investigations by staff have verified that vehicles parked on the south side of Goulding Avenue are interfering with transit
operations and is restricting the flow of two way traffic.
Conclusions:
In view of the above, this department would support the recommendation to prohibit parking at any time on the south side
of Goulding Avenue, between Cactus Avenue and Peckham Avenue.
