June 5, 1998

 To:Toronto Community Council

From:Andrew Koropeski, Director, Infrastructure Planning and Transportation, City Works Services

Subject:Intersection of Vaughan Road and Bathurst Street- Request for additional street name signs. (Midtown)

 Purpose:

To enhance motorists' awareness of the street names at the intersection of Vaughan Road and Bathurst Street.

Funding Sources, Financial Implications and Impact Statement:

 Not applicable.

 Recommendation:

That this report be received for information.

 Background:

In a memorandum dated April 28, 1998 tabled at the Toronto Community Council meeting of May 6, 1998, Councillor Joe Mihevc (York Eglinton) requested staff to investigate street name signs at the intersection of Vaughan Road and Bathurst Street. Toronto Community Council referred this matter to the Commissioner of Works and Emergency Services and requested that the matter be investigated and that a report thereon be submitted to the Toronto Community Council for its meeting on June 24, 1998.

 Comments:

City Works Services staff have investigated the intersection of Bathurst Street and Vaughan Road and have made arrangements for an additional sign for AVaughan Road@ to be posted on the north end of the concrete island at this intersection. This will improve advance visibility of the street name signs at this intersection for both northbound and southbound motorists on Bathurst Street.
