To: Special Committee to Review the Final Report of the Toronto Transition Team
From: Chief Administrative Officer
Subject: Summary Information on Agencies, Boards, Commissions, Advisory Committees and Task Forces
Purpose:
This report transmits a draft database of information about the City of Toronto=s agencies, boards, commissions, advisory committees and task forces.
Funding Sources, Financial Implications and Impact Statement:
There is no budgetary impact.
Recommendations:
It is recommended that this report be received for information.
Council Reference/Background/History:
The Special Committee=s mandate and work program include consideration of the City=s governance structure and of opportunities and structures for citizen involvement in Toronto=s municipal government. These structures include a large inventory of agencies, boards, commissions, advisory committees and task forces. Several recommendations in the Transition Team=s Final Report refer both explicitly and generally to these organizations.
Comments and/or Discussion and/or Justification:
The seven former municipalities had many agencies, boards, commissions, program advisory committees and issue-specific task forces. Most of these bodies are continued within the structure of the new City pending their review and possible rationalization. In addition, a number of new boards and commissions were established by the legislation creating the new City.
The inventory appended to this report contains a summary of information about these organizations, including their legislative basis, current composition and term of appointments, relevant Transition Team recommendations, other pertinent motions, and comments on outstanding issues. Staff will report on the next steps in dealing with the outstanding issues at a future meeting of the Special Committee. The attached summary is provided at this time to enable Members of the Special Committee to familiarize themselves with the information prior to their consideration of that report.
Conclusions:
It is recommended that this report be received for information.
