Attention: Ms. Nancy Rickford
Dear Ms. Wong:
Further to your letter of January 13, 1998, regarding the minutes of the Urban Environment and Development Committee, January 12, 1998, meeting be advised that the Chief General Manager of the TTC did respond to the question raised by the Committee with respect to lost time due to workplace injuries.
To repeat the comments of the Chief General Manager:
- the targets established by the Plant Maintenance department were overly ambitious; and
- the issue of workplace injury is a priority item at the Commission and Strategies have been implemented to focus on identification and prevention.
Further, in response to the question that workplace safety might be jeopardized due to the downsizing efforts undertaken at the TTC - we are confident that the downsizing which was heavily weighted towards management and administrative staff had no effect on workplace safety.
Sincerely,
Vincent Rodo
General Secretary
