Purpose:
To report on high priority items being considered by Transportation staff on Eglinton Avenue West, between Dufferin Street and W.R. Allen Road.
Recommendations:
It is recommended that this report be received for information.
Background:
At the Urban Environment and Development Committee on January 12, 1998 our Department was requested to provide a list of high priority items being considered on Eglinton Avenue West, between Dufferin Street and W.R. Allen Road.
Discussion:
Transportation staff are currently considering the following priority items on Eglinton Avenue West, between Dufferin Street and W.R. Allen Road:
Traffic Management Plan for the Former City of York Ward 2:
The issues respecting the development of a traffic management plan for the area bounded by Eglinton Avenue West, Oakwood Avenue, Vaughan Road and Cedarvale Park are being considered by the affected Councillors at this time. Traffic calming plan alternatives have been prepared by a consultant and presented to the community. These alternatives will be discussed at York Community Council and, contingent upon approval, one alternative will eventually be installed.
Eglinton Avenue West and Dufferin Street:
Previously we have identified a need to install a westbound left-turn lane at this intersection. To accommodate this new lane we require additional property. We are currently negotiating this property acquisition and preparing the final design. We anticipate that this installation will proceed in the Fall of 1998. However, this schedule is subject to the successful completion of negotiations for property.
Eglinton Avenue West and Oakwood Avenue:
A pedestrian hand-rail is currently located on the southeast corner and on the north side of this intersection. Based on a request from the local BIA we are currently finalizing a redesign of the pedestrian hand-rail at this intersection to meet local needs. We anticipate that these hand railing modifications will be completed in the Summer of 1998. This schedule is contingent upon the approval of the railing design by the affected Councillors.
Conclusions:
Transportation staff are currently considering the following priority items: traffic management plan for the former City of York Ward 2, the proposed installation of a westbound left-turn lane at Eglinton Avenue West and Dufferin Street, and a modification to the pedestrian hand-rail at Eglinton Avenue West and Oakwood Avenue.
