4.ROLE AND FUNCTION OF VOLUNTARY COMMUNITY SERVICE SECTOR
From Peter Clutterbuck, Co-Director, CSPC & Chair of Community Voices of Support
(March 10, 1998)
AI would like to request an opportunity to present on behalf of COMMUNITY VOICES OF SUPPORT to the York
Community Council on April 1st. This presentation will be in partnership with community agency representatives in York.
I recognize that the procedural by-laws allow us to request a longer period of time with more than one speaker. It is my
intention to make this request at the Community Council Meeting.
For your information, COMMUNITY VOICES OF SUPPORT is a city-wide network of more than 400 community-based
agencies working in a wide range of social support fields. We have been active at the former Metro Council on issues
related to the quality of life in our city.
COMMUNITY VOICES has prepared a presentation on the community service sector that it is now taking to the new
Community Councils. We would like to make a 20 minutes presentation to the Community Council and engage in
discussion for another 10 minutes.
The presentation will highlight the role and function of the voluntary community service sector in the new City of Toronto.
This will be an opportunity for Councillors to connect with community agencies in York. This information will be useful as
a grounding for social infrastructure debates at a city-wide level. We will highlight the municipal and provincial challenges
facing the community sector at this time nd present suggestions on how we can be a resource to Councillors.
I look forward to meeting with you on April lst. I would appreciate receiving confirmation regarding what time we will be
o the agenda.
If you have any questions, please call Shannon Wiens at 351-0095, ext. 225. Thank you.
