39. TTC SERVICE IMPROVEMENTS IN YORK-HUMBER

AND YORK-EGLINTON

Clause embodied in Report No. 2 of the York Community Council meeting held on February 18, 1998

 7. (cc) TTC Service Improvements in York-Humber and York-Eglinton.

The York Community Council reports having received the following communication, and having directed that ratepayer groups be invited to attend the public meeting on April 1, 1998, to make deputations after the other items scheduled to be heard at 7:00 p.m.

(February 4, 1998) from Councillor Frances Nunziata, Ward 27, York - Humber, forwarding a letter from the Chief General Manager (January 30, 1998) requesting proposals for improvements in transit service for evaluation in the TTC=s 1999 Service Plan, be submitted by Friday, April 3, 1998, and advising that in April, after proposals from councillors have been assembled, the TTC will be holding a public meeting to receive further input directly from customers.

(March 17, 1998) from Councillor Frances Nunziata, Ward 27, York - Humber, forwarding a letter (February 26, 1998) from the President, Silverthorn Ratepayers= Association:

Thank you for your recent letter requesting comments and suggestions related to Toronto Transit

Commission (TTC) service improvements. We welcome this opportunity to provide you with feedback on this important issue with respect to our local community.

At our SRA meeting of February 11, 1998, a suggestion was made by our ratepayers to expand TTC services to Humber Regional Hospital on Church Street by extending the northern limit of the Trethewey Avenue bus route along Pine Street. Currently, the bus turns around at Lawrence and Pine Street. This means several block of walking which can compromise access to the hospital by seniors seeking health care. We feel this increased demand in service is even more important because of the closure of Northwestern General Hospital.

We anticipate that as various community services are amalgamated within our area over at least the next year, new issues related to TTC services will arise and need to be addressed.

If you have any concerns regarding our suggestion, please feel free to contact me at 653-6648. Thank you in advance for your attention to this matter.
