6.PARKING OF SCHOOL BUSES ON RESIDENTIAL STREETS

 Requesting that Clause No. 14 (ee) of City of Toronto York Community Council Report No. 4, with regard to a communication (March 24, 1998) from Councillor Bill Saundercook forwarding a letter (January 26, 1998) from the Eglinton-Keele Residents= Committee, AThat an amendment to the uniform traffic by-laws be made to include banning and restricting all school buses from parking on residential streets in the City of Toronto@, which was received by the York Community Council on April 1, 1998, be placed on the agenda.

 Please add the attached request from Mr. Fred Lindsay of 140 Cameron Avenue to the agenda of the next community council meeting - April 1, 1998.

 Will Committee please request a report from the appropriate department as to the feasibility of Mr. Lindsay=s request.

 The following motion is presented for discussion, consideration, and decision:

 AThat an amendment to the uniform traffic by-laws be made to include banning and restricting ALL *school buses (see below) from parking on residential streets in the City of Toronto.@

 *Notes: AAll school buses@ is defined as follows:

 1.All vehicles that display school bus or school vehicle signs.

2.Regardless of weight, size, or school board affiliation.

3.Which have a special Ontario certified school bus commercial license for carrying student passengers; and

4.That the carrying capacity is 10 or more student passengers.

 Residents do not object to school bus parking on school properties, commercial or industrial properties. There is local legislation that may have to be passed controlling bus parking on private residential properties. This legislation exists at the local level.

 (Reference: Clause No. 125 embodied in Report No. 15 of the Works and Parks Committee (September 22, 1997) which was adopted by the Council of the former City of York at its meeting held on October 1, 1997; Clause No. 123.2 embodied in Report No. 14 of the Works and Parks Committee Meeting held on September 8, 1997; and Clause No. 63 embodied in Report No. 11 of the Works and Parks Committee (June 2, 1997) which was adopted by the Council of the former City of York at its meeting held on June 9, 1997.)
