(May 26, 1998)
Please include the attached memo from Donna Cousineau, Chairperson of the St. Matthew=s School Council on the next
agenda of York Community Council.
Thank you.
Donna Cousineau, Chairperson, St. Matthew Catholic School Council
(May 20, 1998)
As a follow up to our discussion regarding the possibility of a 50/50 cost sharing agreement with the City of Toronto, we
respectfully request that our proposed (Phase 1 of our Site Development Plan) be placed on the agenda of the next June ,
1998 York Council Meeting.
Over the years, our parents, staff and neighbours have repeatedly expressed concerns about the SAFETY, THE
COMFORT, AND THE AESTHETICS of the overall St. Matthew Site.
Five years ago, we began working with the Toronto Catholic School Board in developing a Site Master Plan that would
address our long standing concerns in the areas of safety and security of the students. The Master Plan directs such
concerns as bus bays for proper student pick up and drop off, appropriate staff and visitor parking, play opportunities for
kindergarten children, greening of site and play/recreation opportunities for the older students.
To date, the parent community has raised over $5,000.00 for this important initiative. The total projected costs of Phase I
of our Site Master Plan has been estimated at $160,000.00 plus construction costs. A copy of the Landscape Concept Plan
is attached.
After reviewing our request, we strongly feel that the City Councillors will also conclude that addressing the safety,
comfort and overall educational needs of our children is of the upmost importance.
Donna Cousineau, Chairperson, St. Matthew Catholic School Council
(June 3, 1998)
As a follow up to our telephone conversation yesterday, I am requesting in writing to be placed on the June 24, 1998
Community Council Agenda.
I will be respectfully requesting a cost sharing agreement with the City of Toronto in regards to our proposed Site
Development Plan.
A brief history:
Five years ago, we began working with the Toronto Catholic School Board in developing a Site Master Plan that would
address our long standing concerns in the areas of safety and security of the students. The Master Plan directs such
concerns as bus bays for proper student pickup and drop off, appropriate staff and visitor parking, play opportunities for
kindergarten children, greening of site and play/recreation opportunities for older students.
To date, the parent community has raised over $5,000.00 for this important initiative. The total project cost of Phase 1 of
our Site Master Plan has been estimated at $160,000.00 plus construction costs.
On May 28, an informal information sharing session was held between myself, Mr. Rovito, Mr. Saundercook and Ms.
Nunziata. It was agreed upon, because of the projected costs involved that adequate Asteps@ must be taken with all
partners involved for the plan to become a reality.
Please inform me as to what time I would be presenting. If you have any additional questions or concerns, don=t hesitate
to call me at 651-9585.
(A copy of the site plan referred to in the foregoing communication was forwarded to all Members of Council with the
agenda of the York Community Council meeting of June 24, 1998, and a copy thereof is on file in the Clerk's Department,
York Civic Service Centre.)
