9.EMERGENCY TELEPHONES IN PARKS
Ward 27, York-Humber and Ward 28, York-Eglinton.
Councillor Bill Saundercook, Ward 27, York-Humber, Chair, York Community Council
(August 3, 1998)
Could you please put the following item, along with the attached background article on the
agenda for the next York Community Council Meeting. Thank you.
WHEREAS public safety is a top concern among residents in the former City of York; and
WHEREAS many residents are afraid to use our parks because they believe they won't be
able to successfully ask for help should there be an emergency;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that York Community Council ask staff to
produce a report on the locations, and numbers of emergency telephones in parks facilities
in the Wards of York-Humber and York-Eglinton; and
FURTHER, that staff be instructed to send a letter to all ratepayer groups and community
organizations in York asking for their input on emergency telephones in parks, and where
they would like to see telephones installed.
(A copy of the background article, referred to in the foregoing correspondence, was
forwarded to all Members of Council with the agenda of the York Community Council
meeting of September 16, 1998 and a copy thereof is on file in the Clerk's Department, York
Civic Centre.)
