15.TRAFFIC CALMING FACILITIES FOR APPLETON AVENUE

Ward 28, York-Eglinton.

Director of Professional Services, Works and Emergency Services, York Civic Centre

(August 12, 1998)

Please place the attached petition from the residents of Appleton Avenue on the next agenda of the York Community Council scheduled for September 16, 1998.

Petition Signed by Thirty-one (31) Residents on Appleton Avenue

We undersigned residents of Appleton Avenue strongly support the construction of raised pedestrian crossings and narrowed pavement to improve safety on our street. We have become increasingly concerned for the safety of all residents, particularly children, given the increased numbers of cars using Appleton Avenue, and the drivers' ever-increasing rates of speed. We consider the need for traffic calming mechanisms to be urgent.

The plans, as detailed on the notice of July 9, 1998, are satisfactory and desirable.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

(The aforementioned notice of July 9, 1998 is on file in the Clerk's Office, York Civic Centre.)
