18.REQUEST FOR ALTERNATE SIDE PARKING ON CRISCOE STREET

Ward 27, York-Humber.

Director, Professional Services, Works and Emergency Services Department,

York Civic Centre

(August 13, 1998)

Purpose:

Councillor Bill Saundercook is requesting a report on the feasibility of implementing alternate side parking on Criscoe Street.

Funding Sources, Financial Implications and Impact Statement:

Traffic budget.

Recommendations:

Subject to a poll revealing the majority of residents are in favour, York Community Council approve the implementation of alternate side parking on Criscoe Street.

Council Reference/Background History:

Ms. Adelaide Smith, 11 Criscoe Street, through Councillor Bill Saundercook is requesting a report on the feasibility of implementing alternate side parking on Criscoe Street.

Comments and/or Discussion and/or Justification:

Criscoe Street traverses in a north/south direction, between Henrietta Street and its northerly terminus, providing two-way vehicular traffic flow.

Currently on-street parking on Criscoe Street is legally permitted on the east side, exclusively. The parking duration is a maximum unsigned three (3) hour limit anytime, except during the hours 12:00 midnight to 6:00 a.m. when an exclusive on-street permit parking program is in effect for only those vehicles displaying a valid on-street parking permit stating Criscoe Street.

Field surveys reveal there is a total complement of seventeen (17) and nineteen (19) curbside parking spaces available on the west and east sides of Criscoe Street, respectively.

Alternate side parking provides an increased level of municipal service for all residents of the City. Maintenance programs such as street cleaning or road and sidewalk repairs can be undertaken readily without disruption to the residents or their visitors.

We, therefore, support the introduction of alternate side parking on Criscoe Street between Henrietta Street and its northerly terminus.

Conclusions:

The alternate side parking program is a service benefit for every municipally addressed taxpayer from a maintenance perspective. We, therefore, support and recommend the implementation of alternate side parking on Criscoe Street between Henrietta Street and its northerly terminus.
