4.REMOVAL OF CITY-OWNED TREE 17 GRANDVILLE AVE.
K. W. Dickin, York Parks and Recreation
(October 1, 1998)
Purpose:
Mrs. Labaine Miller has contacted Councillor Nunziata's office and requested to make a
deputation to York Community Council to have the city-owned tree on her property removed.
Funding Sources, Financial Implications and Impact Status:
Pruning costs are approved in the 1998 operating budget.
Recommendations:
That the mature Maple tree located at 17 Grandville Ave. be pruned and not removed as it
does not qualify for removal according to the tree by-law.
Comments:
Mrs. Labaine Miller has contacted Councillor Nunziata's office to request that the city-owned
tree be removed from her property. Mrs. Miller claims that she has had a drain pipe replaced
in her basement as a result of tree roots. Our investigator has contacted the work's department
that have no record of this claim on file. Mrs. Miller is not aware that she may qualify for
reimbursment through the Works/Operational Reimbursement policy that is in place. Further
Mrs. Miller claims that the roots are breaking through the foundations of her floor and
entering into her basement. Although our staff have not an opportunity to investigate the
basement of the home a 17 Grandville, we find this to be very irregular as young roots
generally do not break through basement foundations, but redirect themselves as they abut the
concrete. Our staff have agreed to prune the city-owned Maple tree at 17 Grandville Ave. and
a work order has been processed
Conclusion:
The city-owned tree located at 17 Grandville Ave. be pruned and that Mrs. Miller be directed
to communicate with the Works Department and inquire if she is eligible for reimbursement
for sewer work done on her property.
