5.8 LOUVAIN STREET, REQUEST FOR TREE REMOVAL
Ward 27, York Humber.
K. W. Dickin, Yorks Parks and Recreation
(October 1, 1998)
Purpose:
Councillor Nunziata has been contacted by Mrs. Hinchcliffe of 8 Louvain Street and
requested that the city-owned fruit bearing tree on the boulevard be removed.
Funding Sources, Financial Implications and Impact Status:
Pruning costs are approved in the 1998 operating budget.
Recommendations:
That the city-owned flowering crab located on the boulevard in front of 8 Louvain Street not
be removed as requested by the homeowner as it does not qualify related to the tree by-law.
Comments:
In accordance with the tree-by-law the Flowering Crab located on the boulevard does not
qualify for removal as the tree is in good condition. Our tree investigator has had an
opportunity to visit the site and has recommended pruning of the tree and a work order has
been processed. Staff understand that there is high maintenance involved with this tree
species, however, it is a popular tree in the York area with four (4) others located on Louvain
Street. If the Flowering Crab located in front of 8 Louvain was removed we may receive
requests from other residents on the street that would reduce the tree inventory on Louvain.
Conclusion:
The tree in front of 8 Louvain be pruned, and if the residents requires assistance with
maintenance appropriate staff provide contacts for agencies in the York area, that can provide
home assistance.
