Ward 27, York Humber.
Councillor Bill Saundercook, Ward 27, York Humber
(September 23, 1998)
Donna Cousineau, the Chairperson of St. Matthew's School Council has sent the attached
correspondence to our Works Department. Can staff report to Community Council on the
feasibility of the request and any further recommendations on facilitating the traffic flow on
Lavender Road in order to drop off students outside of the school.
Donna Cousineau, Chairperson, St. Matthew Catholic School Council
to Director, Professional Services Department
(September 14, 1998)
My name is Donna Cousineau and I am the chairperson of the St. Matthew Catholic School
Council for the past three years. I would like to request a cost estimate drawing for 18
Lavender Road school bus bays.
Currently, St. Matthew School is serviced by three large school buses and three smaller buses
which load and unload the children at the sidewalk. This routine adds to traffic congestion and
causes, as well, drivers to become impatient as they try to manoeuvre their way through
students, parents, and other vehicles. The parent community firmly believes that this on-going
traffic congestion on Lavender Road seriously affects the safety of the children at St. Matthew
School.
For your reference, I am enclosing a summarized background history between St. Matthew
School and the City and the Site Master Plan drawing.
Thank you for your consideration in this matter. I look forward to further communication at
your earliest convenience.
(A copy of the summarized background history referred to in the foregoing communication,
was forwarded to all Members of Council with the agenda of the York Community Council
meeting of October 14, 1998 and a copy thereof is on file in the Clerk's Department, York
Civic Centre.)
