Councillor Frances Nunziata, Ward 27, York-Humber
(October 27, 1998)
Moved by Councillor Nunziata
Seconded by Councillor Mihevc
WHEREAS local residents and members of the York-Humber business community are working hard to improve the
appearance and safety of Weston Road and Eglinton Avenue; and
WHEREAS the proliferation of garbage and debris scattered around the area of these two arterial roads can be directly
attributed to some residents and businesses putting their garbage out on non-collection days; and
WHEREAS this garbage is not only an eyesore for the community, but requires more staff to clean up the area and can
also present a traffic hazard to motorists;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the York Community Council indicate to the Works and Utilities Committee
and the Urban Environment and Development Committee, that it supports the drafting of a by-law that would prohibit
garbage, waste, and recycling material from being put out on arterial roads for collection on non-collection days, and that
the municipality be empowered to fine those property owners and businesses who fail to comply with this by-law.
