To amend By-law No. 96-91 of the former Municipality of Metropolitan Toronto
establishing a reserve fund for the development and construction of a
Metropolitan Toronto Police Museum at 40 College Street, Toronto, Ontario.
WHEREAS the former Municipality of Metropolitan Toronto Act provided that the former Metropolitan Council could establish or maintain a reserve fund for any purpose for which it had authority to spend funds; and
WHEREAS the former Municipality of Metropolitan Toronto Act and the Police Services Act authorized the former Metropolitan Council to expend funds for police operations within Metropolitan Toronto; and
WHEREAS at its meeting of August 16, 1991, former Metropolitan Council adopted By-law No. 96-91 establishing a reserve fund for the development and construction of a Metropolitan Toronto Police Museum (the "By-law"); and
WHEREAS at its meeting held on February 23, 1994, former Metropolitan Council approved Clause No. 5 of Report No. 6 of its Management Committee, recommending an amendment to the By-law in order to expand the scope of potential expenditures from the Metropolitan Toronto Police Museum Reserve Fund to include the operating costs of the Police Museum; and
WHEREAS former Metropolitan Council granted authority for the introduction of the necessary bill to give effect to such recommendation but such bill has not yet been introduced; and
WHEREAS it is necessary and desirable to amend the By-law to reflect the recommendation approved by the former Metropolitan Council.
The Council of the City of Toronto hereby ENACTS as follows:
1. The By-law is amended by substituting the words "development, construction and operation" for the words "development and construction" wherever they appear in the By-law.
2. This by-law shall be deemed to have come into force on February 23, 1994.
